Research

My research broadly addresses questions of speech perception and speech production, highly complex human behaviors. In particular, I am interested in cognitive and social factors affecting speech, including voice, accent, attitudes, familiarity, and situational conditions. I approach my research from a multidisciplinary perspective, incorporating evidence and techniques from big data, neuroscience, and evolutionary anthropology. My dissertation work explores the automaticity with which speech perception and social information can alter speech behavior, as well as the consequences of speech alignment. Portions of this and other work have appeared in the Journal of Experimental Psychology and at numerous academic conferences.
