Fall 2020 Teaching Assistantships

Fall 2020 Openings

Responsibilities

  • TAs will instruct one weekly lab section of approximately 40 students. Possible lab time assignments:
    • F 9am-9:50am
    • F 1pm-1:50pm
    • F 3pm-3:50pm
  • Attend weekly meetings with other QTM 100 TAs and QTM 100 course instructor(s)
  • Supervise an undergraduate Lab Assistant
  • Provide other course-related support such as grading, grade entry, development of assignments or exams/exam questions, and holding weekly office hours
  • New QTM 100 TAs are expected to attend the QTM 100 lecture. Please search the undergraduate course atlas for QTM 100 lecture times

Expected Hours

  • 10-15 hours per week

Compensation

  • $2625 for the semester, paid in monthly installments Sept - Dec (e.g., $656.25 per month)

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of introductory statistics is required (e.g., basic probability, t-tests, chi-squared tests, ANOVA, linear regression)
  • Must be willing to work as a team! QTM 100 services 450+ students a semester. The course instructors, TAs, and lab assistants all work together to serve students and ensure a consistent experience across sections
  • Must be a current graduate student at Emory University (no specific field preferred or required)
  • Knowledge of R is preferred, but not required; if you are unfamiliar with R, training can be provided
  • Teaching experience is preferred, but not required

  • Work with the course instructor to set manageable and realistic expectations for completing tasks
  • Neatly tabulate grades and marks
  • Report on errors commonly made by students. Instructors should discuss the nature of such reports with graders at their initial meeting

Expected Hours

  • 10 hours per week, with the specifics to be negotiated between the grader and the course instructor

  • $1500 for the semester, paid in monthly installments Sept - Dec (e.g., $375 per month)

Qualifications

  • Must be a current graduate student at Emory University (no specific field preferred or required)
  • Must have experience with the theory and processes of quantitative research

  • Provide course-related support such as grading for homework, exams, and a final project, grade entry, development of assignments or exams/exam questions, and weekly office hours
  • May be requested to attend the QTM 385 lecture sessions to assist students with coding and troubleshooting. Please search the undergraduate course atlas for QTM 385 course times

Expected Hours

  • 10-15 hours per week

Compensation

  • $1750 for the semester, paid in monthly installments Sept - Dec (e.g., $437.50 per month)

Qualifications

  • Working Knowledge of introductory calculus and linear algebra; some exposure to differential equations; proficiency in Python
  • Familiarity with high-dimensional data and accompanying considerations, such as parameter estimation, model selection, dimensionality reduction, and machine learning (e.g., neural networks)
