Jiwon KimVisiting Assistant Professor

Biography

Jiwon is passionate about leveraging data to address social and human rights questions. She enjoys being a part of students' first coding experiences and supporting their transition into professional careers.

Education

  • Ph.D. Political Science, Emory University, 2024
  • B.A. in English literature and linguistics from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea.

Research

 Jiwon Kim studies how international and domestic politics shape human rights norms (and vice versa). Her dissertation addresses human rights rhetoric as a part of US diplomacy and develops a measurement of state shaming intensity. Her works use natural language processing (NLP), network analysis, and online survey experiments.
